ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Management Sciences at Maharaja Institute of Technology Mysore (MITM–MBA) was established in 2009 and has since evolved into a center of excellence in management education. Initially affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, the department attained autonomous status from the academic year 2023–24, enabling the design and delivery of an industry-aligned, contemporary, and outcome-driven curriculum.
The Department of Management Sciences offers Post Graduate Degree titled “Master of Business Administration”. The department offers this course as 2 years (4 Semester) program.
The department offers a full-time MBA program with an intake of 180 students, with admissions through state and national-level entrance examinations such as PGCET and KMAT. The program provides core specializations in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Data Analytics, Tourism Management, Hotel Management, and Hospital Administration, along with the option of dual specialization to enhance students’ professional versatility and employability.
Since its inception, the department has demonstrated consistent academic excellence, securing 3 VTU ranks and producing over 1,000 successful management professional contributing across diverse sectors. The Department of Management Sciences is accredited by NBA and NAAC and is supported by a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty members with strong academic credentials and industry exposure, fostering quality teaching, impactful research, and effective student mentoring.
The MBA program emphasizes a balanced blend of classroom learning and experiential education through leadership and communication training, internships, research projects, case studies, seminars, group projects, soft-skill and aptitude workshops, as well as industry interactions through guest lectures and industrial visits.
The department ensures placement opportunities for all eligible students, supported by a dedicated placement cell that focuses on industry readiness and career development. Graduates have been placed in reputed organizations such as Accenture, EMC², Dell, Infosys, Kotak Mahindra, JP Morgan, ICICI, and other leading companies, with the highest package offered being ₹6.5 lakhs per annum.
In addition to the MBA program, the department offers Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs in Management Sciences through the Maharaja Research Foundation (MRF), affiliated with the University of Mysore and VTU. The doctoral program benefits from active engagement with professionals from leading organizations such as TE Connectivity, Infosys, TCS, and IBM, strengthening research quality and industry collaboration.

PO1 (Foundation Knowledge): Apply knowledge of mathematics, programming logic and
coding fundamentals for solution architecture and problem solving.
PO2 (Problem Analysis): Identify, review, formulate and analyze problems for primarily
focusing on customer requirements using critical thinking frameworks.
PO3 (Development of Solutions): Design, develop and investigate problems with as an
innovative approach for solutions incorporating ESG/SDG goals.
PO4 (Modern Tool Usage): Select, adapt and apply modern computational tools such as
development of algorithms with an understanding of the limitations including human biases.
PO5 (Individual and Teamwork): Function and communicate effectively as an individual or a
team leader in diverse and multidisciplinary groups. Use methodologies such as agile.
PO6 (Project Management and Finance): Use the principles of project management such as
scheduling, work breakdown structure and be conversant with the principles of Finance for
profitable project management.
PO7 (Ethics): Commit to professional ethics in managing software projects with financial
aspects. Learn to use new technologies for cyber security and insulate customers from malware
PO8 (Life-long learning): Change management skills and the ability to learn, keep up with
contemporary technologies and ways of working.
